Michael Sheehan was born in Chicago and raised on its notorious South Side, an area documented by novels such as Studs Lonigan. The Jungle, The Man with the Golden Arm, and many others. At age 16, he escaped a life of certain crime by entering a seminary in Saugatuck, Michigan, and after that, his studies took him all over the Midwest: Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Conception and St. Louis, Missouri, and back to Olympia Fields, Illinois. He received a B.A. in philosophy from Villanova University, an M.A. in English from DePaul University, and did postgraduate studies at the University of Chicago. Eventually, he taught English classes for 26 years at Olive-Harvey College, (located on the southeast side of Chicago) a branch of the City Colleges of Chicago. He is a member of the Society of Midland Authors, the Dictionary Society of North America, and Michigan Writers. He gives seminars and presentations on language all over the state of Michigan.
